Mike Shetler, Senior Executive Director/Founder
RCFE Licensed Administrator, Nursing Home Administrator, J.D.
Mike brings nearly 30 years of administrator experience to Plaza Village and Mallard Senior Living Management, L.L.C. A fourth generation native San Diegan, Mike attended the San Diego Academy in National City, before attending Loma Linda University. In January of 1992 Mike became the Assistant Administrator at Castle and Friendship Manor. Since then Mike has worked as the Administrator/Executive Director at Paradise Valley Manor, Monte Vista Village, Atria Collwood, Paradise Village, and Lantern Crest, before founding Mallard Senior Living Management, L.L.C and coming to Plaza Village. Mike has proven highly successful every step of the way, no doubt due to his genuine caring nature for his residents, patients and staff.
Ryan Test, Executive Director/Senior Living Consultant
RCFE Licensed Administrator
Ryan brings over 10 years of Assisted Living experience to Plaza Village. Also a native San Diegan, Ryan graduated from Valhalla High School and also has a Business Administration degree from California State University, Chico. With over 10 years as an Executive Director, with companies such as Oakmont Senior Living and Integral Senior Living, Ryan’s leadership and marketing expertise make him a true Senior Living expert.
“I love helping seniors and families navigate the task of finding the RIGHT senior living community. It is a very difficult decision that most everyone doesn’t want to deal with and I understand that.” Ryan believes that our #1 job is to “Do what is right for seniors,” and if his community is not the best fit he will be the first to help find the right place. “I don’t want people to hesitate to call me even if it is to just ask questions.” There are a lot of steps to community selection and the move in process and Ryan can guide you through them all.
Kala Santos, Residential Services Director
Kala was introduced to the world of senior living back in May of 2012. In only a short 3 years Kala was being honored as the Resident Services Director of the Year, for the California Assisted Living Association!
We all get to be celebrated on our birthday. And those of us who are mothers and fathers get a special day as well. But how many of you know what it feels like to have a day declared as your day by the mayor of your city? On October 23, 2015, Kala Santos found out, when it was declared “Kala Santos Day” in the city of Chula Vista.
Kala’s passion for seniors and “lead by example” management style has always made her a favorite among residents, families and staff alike. “I cannot tell you how excited we are to have Kala join our team.”, said Ryan Test, Executive Director. “We have known of Kala and her great reputation for some time now”, said Mike Shetler, Founder of Mallard Senior Living. “We finally found the right opportunity to bring her on board.”
Chef James Dominguez, Culinary Services Director
Born in Pamona, CA. James and his family came to National City where he attended the San Diego Academy from the 4th grade. James realized he had a passion for cooking at the aget of 14 when he would help his mom and grandmother in the cafeteria at school. After high school, James enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 2009 where he was culinarily trained at TRACEN Petaluma.He served 7 years in the Coast Guard with his last 3 in Miami, FL. where he had the distinct honor of for all special functions for the District 7 Admiral and guests.
Once returning to civilian life Chef James worked at Paridise Village Senior Living, before coming to Plaza Village as the Culinary Services Director. Chef James realities that Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are a huge part of any seniors day. “I take my job very seriously, because if I don’t the residents will let me hear about it”, James said with a smile, “and I like hearing the all the compliments much better.”

Tami is a valued staff member and has worked in the Assisted Living Industry for the past 25 years. She has been the Business Office Manager at Plaza Village since we opened our doors in January 2010.
